May 26 through 31 was a mix of returning from Italy, wrapping up Fulbright work, and trying to enjoy the last full days in Ljubljana.
After leaving Bari, I had one more reminder that airport food in Italy is not the same as airport food in the United States. The flight back gave me another beautiful view of Italy’s eastern coastline, this time in daylight. I made it back to Ljubljana just in time to see runners passing my apartment for the Students Run to the Castle, a charity race from Prešeren Square up to Ljubljana Castle.
The next day was my final meeting with the graduate students. We reflected on the work they had done, the growth they had shown, and the progress they made working with the children. I felt really proud of them. Afterward, I met with the team at the Institute to talk about follow up work and the possibility of returning to Ljubljana.
The rest of the week included some favorite Ljubljana routines. There was a long castle walk, lunch at Klobasarna, dinner with Marta and Igor, and one last Open Kitchen. The city center was also filled with a science fair, with demonstrations for kids throughout the streets. By the weekend, the heat had arrived, tourists were everywhere, and the month ended with dinner at Ribe and Vine.
