The second week of April was a good mix of work, hiking, and exploring more of Slovenia. I used a car share service for the first time and drove to Šmarna Gora, which was also my first time driving since arriving in Slovenia and my first time driving an electric car. The trip went smoothly and the views were worth it.

During the week I also hiked through Tivoli Park and up Rožnik. One of the things I appreciate most about Ljubljana is how easy it is to get outside. Tivoli Park is huge and connects right into forest trails, and like many hiking spots in Slovenia, there is a restaurant at the top where people take a break before heading back down.

There were quieter days too. I spent time working, planning a weekend trip to Venice, and getting ready to wrap up work with my first group of patients and students at the Institute. It is hard to believe how quickly the experience is going. The students have been great to work with and very open to feedback throughout the process.

I also had dinner with my colleague at the Autism Institute, Marta, and her husband Igor, which was really meaningful because Marta helped make my work in Ljubljana possible in the first place.

By Friday the city was busy again with Open Kitchen. Every week it seems more crowded as the weather gets warmer and more people spend time outside.

The highlight of the week was a trip to Vintgar Gorge and Lake Bled. I used the car share service again and spent the day hiking through the gorge and surrounding trails. One unexpected part of the hike was ending up at a small church celebration where locals were offering free food and drinks to visitors. Afterward I stopped at Lake Bled again and finally got to see it on a sunny day, which made it feel completely different from my first visit there in cloudy weather.
