Exploring Lake Bled felt like stepping into a fairytale. A small island church rises from the middle of a turquoise alpine lake, surrounded by mountains and forests, while Bled Castle stands dramatically on a steep cliff above the water. From its terraces, the panoramic views are unforgettable.

Back in Ljubljana, quieter moments brought new discoveries and a different path to the castle revealed peaceful neighborhoods and beautiful viewpoints. Returning to work also meant stepping into more active roles with students and patients, a rewarding but challenging shift, especially as children adjusted to routines after a holiday break.

Connections continue to shape daily life. Lunch with another Fulbright Scholar led to an evening concert where the audience’s calm patience created a memorable atmosphere. Sunny afternoons have been perfect for outdoor meals, including traditional spinach štruklji, while evenings at local gathering spots have brought easy conversation with travelers, expats, and welcoming locals.

Time spent with fellow Fulbrighters at the U.S. Ambassador’s residence reinforced a shared sense of purpose and community. Wandering the city on unstructured days has revealed pop-up art, spring flowers, and small personal discoveries — including a newfound appreciation for Negronis.

he week ended with the vibrant energy of International Women’s Day, as families, flowers, and peaceful demonstrations filled the city center — a meaningful reflection of both celebration and awareness. Together, these experiences highlight a rich balance of professional growth, cultural immersion, and everyday moments of connection.
