Spring in Ljubljana: May 4-10

This week was a nice mix of work, time outdoors, and enjoying some of the traditions that make spring in Ljubljana such a great time of year.
The week began with a walk along the river east of the Dragon Bridge and a visit to the beautiful Plečnik Dam. The second week of the social skills group was underway, and I spent a day teaching at the Faculty of Education in Bežigrad. I also discovered that Stow Coffee was one of the few places in Ljubljana where people regularly work on laptops, since most cafés are designed more for conversation and relaxation than productivity. Quiz night at Loo Blah Nah continued to be a fun weekly tradition.
The weather improved just in time for Open Kitchen to return after a cancellation the previous week. A walk up toward the castle included a new route with great views of the city, and the river paths were especially beautiful with everything in bloom.
The highlight of the week was participating in the Path of Remembrance and Comradeship, a 33-kilometer trail that follows the route of the barbed wire fence that enclosed Ljubljana during the Second World War. Each spring, thousands of people take part in the event to commemorate the liberation of the city. Completing the full route with the Fabian family made for a memorable day and another fun adventure together.
The week ended with some easier walks to recover from the 33 kilometers and a quieter Mother's Day away from home. Dinner at Most Lucky brought back memories of celebrating Slovenian Mother's Day earlier in the spring when Tony and Loen were visiting Ljubljana.
